Heirlooms

Here are some of my family heirlooms. I have many more but some are put away. I have several old bibles from my family. I have my grandaunt’s secretary but it is not situated where I can photograph it easily. It was filled with books when I got it. They were mostly family owned books, including some school books of hers (Ruth Shogren), her brother (Manfred Shogren), & her parents, my grandparents (Howard Shogren & Bernice Linderholm). I have several handwork pieces of my grandaunt also. There is one huge framed piece of hers hanging at Bethany College. She did a rough sketch of the Old Main building that some idiots tore down years ago, little mini-vignettes of early happenings at the college. Then she embroidered it all without a pattern. I have several bibles belonging to many different family members. I even have the paper my (Emma) that gave her permission to leave Karlshamn Sweden & come to America, signed by her pastor. It is very precious to me. I forget the swedish name for this paper. I even have photos of her parents that are framed. Very old.

I am not explaining the photos here, but go to this link to read the notes, etc. on them in Flickr.  http://www.flickr.com/gp/44124368192@N01/83299Y

I apologise that a couple of these are blurry. I was taking them with a little Jo nipping at my feet!!! Hard to concentrate.

Today’s Name Day is Frej, Freja. I do not know anyone with these names.

Thought for today: Words are mere bubbles of water, but deeds are drops of gold. – Chinese proverb

I met Sally for lunch today. We ate at the Cookery. Good food, good company. It was 32F when I went to town with no wind. When I left there, the wind was starting to howl.

I then went to the Red Barn to work. I got the Thank You card caught up. Everyone who buys a membership or renews a membership gets a hand written thank you. I did maybe 20 & got them mailed. I worked on some docent stuff but did not get done. When I left there the wind was into a major howl — up to 30+ mph. The temp was still at 30 but felt very frigid.

I met Eric at the Old Grind for coffee. I had my usual Irish Cream Soda with almond flavouring. Too good for words. We talked politics & movie industry news. Nice to see him & to catch up. He gave me a couple of dvd’s for my birthday. And he will have another one when we meet next. Plus they have an animal refuge in McPherson & get puppy food but they only have cats. He gave me lots of puppy food. Jo loves it & is begging for it. I guess what we have been feeding her is not as good!!

When I left the Old Grind still windy with the temp now at 21. It has dropped to 15 now at 9pm. It is so cold out.

I put some food out for the kitty when I came home. I saw her heading for the porch. Oh, what a sweet kitty. She had a dead rat in her mouth to show me. How special. Glad she is doing her job!! She ate the rat & the food. Ummmm.

Now I am sitting with my feet up. Took some photos for Gerry’s challenge. Do those next. Never did any photos yesterday so I had to catch up with my daily photos today.

Gått för dagen. Kanske.

Be well, do good work, and keep in touch!
