I went to bed extra early again last nite. I had been crying & I was extra tired. I woke up this morning not feeling much better. I think my allergies are now in full force. My eyes itch, burn, & tear. I am in desperate need of a nap now.

Went to Swedish club today. We all brought Bible verses in both Swedish & English. It was interesting. And some of our older members remember going to Sunday school or church when it was totally in Swedish. I wish I had been so lucky.

Elly & I went to the college to eat. We had a ‘working’ lunch. We are in charge in getting programs for our swedish group. So we came up with ideas. It is certainly not easy. I had to do it alone for a while. I hated it. Helps to have 2 of us. I wish our members would sometimes give suggestions to us also.

The weather is quite nice today. In the 50s, no wind, & lots of sun.

Needles & Mom…

I was up so late tuesday nite working on taxes I was just bushed on wednesday. I wanted a nap so bad but had taxes to finish. By 9pm last nite I was fighting sleep. I went to bed. Got up at 9am today. I am feeling much better!!

Our weather was supposed to be nice this week. But today it is cloudy with showers. But then the sun shone about midafternoon.

I had another acupuncture treatment today. Nothing major but she is gone all next week at a conference so I get a week off. I am still just too tired for words. I hope this passes fast. I am tired of being tired.

Mom moved to her new room yesterday. Wow. It is huge. She loves it!! I have a table of shelves for her to put her ceramics on. Will have Bill deliver it. Then later when Bill is here, we can shop for chairs & a table or two. Make it homier. 

Mom still lives in an alternate universe, which is good for her. But not so good for me. She wants just me & her to take off some sunday & drive to Topeka to see my aunt. If we only could. I had to fight tears while there. We used to do that. It is hard to even write this without tears. I still want to have my mom, problems & all, but she is gone now. I miss her. I depended so much on her when my daughter abandoned her husband & son. Now there is no one to lean on.

And now what is Yahoo doing to Flickr? Has not updated in 2 days. I hope they do not screw it up like they did 360!!!

I met Kathy for lunch today. She works at the college so we always eat there. Food was good today — macaroni & cheese, a casserole, veggies, salad, & either rice pudding or cherry cheesecake (or both!!)

I had to work this afternoon. It was quiet. I did most of the thank you cards & then made 8 new mailing lists.

For us poor farmer’s, it is tax time. Ours is due on the feb. 29. Everyone else must have theirs in on april 15. I started putting in all last years checks yesterday. Finished them around supper tonite. Why I do not keep up each month is beyond me. I hate tax time. Willie gets really snarly. He can spend anything he wants on whatever he wants, but not me. I have to listen to him get upset with every check I have written. I have learned to tune him out. And I adjusted years ago that we have a dictatorship instead of a partnership here.

Weather was nice today. Sunny, in the 50s, no wind. Will be the same all week.

Now I am resting. Needed a nap really bad today. I have an eye that is sore tonite. Driving me nuts. Hope it is better tomorrow.

I had my acupuncture this afternoon. I missed both app’t last week & I was really out of whack today. So she did the needles & my one leg was still shorter than the other. Then she used some blocks for me to lay on. Ten minutes or so later, I was much better. She also said she had some cold & flu medicine that is just herbs. Mixed some up here at home. And I almost died!!! That is the nastiest pond scum I have ever drank. I think if I had a straw, it would go down better. Or maybe a large shot of whiskey first. I am still shuddering at the thought. But my chest might be a bit less tight.

It is warmer today, around 40. And no strong winds so it feels ok. Should be nice the rest of the week. Rain maybe sunday.

Tonite is Messiah again. I will sit in the audience one more time. I am so scared of getting a tickle & then a coughing spell.

I went on a road trip today to Great Bend. It is an 80 min. drive. My friend Pete is there visiting his mom & his sister. He had his 2 dogs with also. It was great to see all of them. Pete’s sis Ros had lunch with us. We email all the time but have actually seen each other rarely. Hopefully I can get there when she is not working.

It was almost 50F when I got to Great Bend. But when I left the wind was howling at around 40 mph & the temp was 38F. It sprinkled on me all the way home. Did not amount to much.

I was sure tired when I got home. I wanted a nap in the worst way, but there was no time. I coughed much less today. So I had supper & had an energy drink.

Then it was class time. I really did not want to miss tonite. We watched Vertigo. I have seen it several times but not for many years. I had forgotten so much about it. Even when the Kim Novak character was asked where she was from & her answer was ‘Salina Kansas’. I do not remember that. When class was over it was foggy on campus, the wind was howling, it was dark. Kind of like my own personal film noir.

I think Jo missed me today. After Willie went to bed she came back out & laid her head on the recliner & looked at me. So I gave up my laptop & the soffa & moved to the recliner. She jumped up next to me for a while. She really looked at me for a while also. A nice moment.

I added my sunday snow photos on Flickr. Most are from the river & some from the cemetery. The photo today is Pete’s dogs & the home is mother lives in.

I had lunch with John today. We decided to eat at the college. On sundays they used to have a great buffet but not today. I chose to eat some breakfast foods they had that looked good. None of it was warm enough & they potatoes were not done. I hate crunchy potatoes. First bad meal I have had there.

Then I drove around & took some snow photos. The river looked cool.

I went to Messiah rehearsal but stayed in the audience. Wow, did they sound good. We are doing a new song in Bach that is very difficult. I was surprised how great it sounded. There were 12 of us sitting out singing today & many others who simply were not there due to the flu. Everyone is sick. Several I sit with were sick last week also.

I was soooo tired during rehearsal it was painful. I could not stop yawning. Nor could I find a comfortable position to sit. I wanted to go to the college tonite to the ALLY meeting & movie, but I simply could do no more today.

When I walked out of rehearsal, most of the snow was gone & the sun was shining. When walking in to the caf at noon, a huge ball of snow fell out of the tree onto my head. I was not amused!!! What a mess!!

The weather was so strange yesterday. It never got even to freezing, yet the ice & snow never melted anywhere. Very strange. Then this morning we had very dense fog. It was bad enough that our dish quit working for a while.

And now it is Oscar time. Whether I see the shows or not, I love watching. Fun to see the gowns & the jewels & the makeup & hair. Best nite of the year!!!

Tomorrow I am driving to see Pete & his mom. I hope it does not tire me too much. If it does, I will skip class tomorrow nite, but I hate to miss. We are watching Vertigo.

Winter returns

  

When I went to work today it was raining out. Later I looked outside & decided to take a photo from the front door. Lo & behold. No more rain but ice pellets!!! It was pretty white when I went home. Lindsborg looked like a ghost town. There was no one driving anywhere. It was very very slick going home. If I dared to go 40 mph, I would slide. I stayed between closer to 30-35 mph.

I decided to do a video when I got home & Jo came out with me. She ran down the steps — not advisable with ice pellets — and promptly slid. I got a photo of the slide marks but she was long gone.

I am posting photos from town & home. It is more snow now than ice. I also have added a video of winter’s return.

Willie made beef stew in the crock pot. Man, is it smelling good. I am so ready to eat. First day I have had an appetite.

At work….

Food for Thought:

I got a lot more sleep last nite. That sure was nice. I had sneezed all day but once I went to bed, it stopped. This morning not long after my alarm went off I got quite a surprise. Appartenly Jo heard it & started clear back in the kitchen & came on a dead run towards the bedroom & flew up on my bed!! And then almost licked my face to death! That was her first time up on the bed without help. I got up & while in the bathroom getting dressed heard her jump of a couple more times & tear around. What will tonite be like??

I think I have both the flu & a cold. On the news they said all states are affected by the flu except Florida. Then they went on to tell how to tell what is the flu & what is a cold. The flu is throughout your entire body. That was me tuesday – thursday. I ached everywhere. I coughed. Even the muscles in a finger or two ached. My chest was tight. A cold is only from the neck up. That was me friday. I sneezed nonstop. My nose fluctuated between an inability to breathe to a constant drip. And I still ached some also. And, of course, since I am ill, my blood sugars are all over the place. I am so blessed. Whatever did I do to deserve this?

I actually washed my hair today. That was too much effort. So now I am at work. I hope no one comes in for a tour. My head persists in buzzing & I am just plain tired. But this is a start. Tomorrow I will eat out & observe Messiah rehearsal.

The lady I work for here at the Red Barn is off to London. Lucky her! She really has the office all organised & spiffy. She will be gone for a month. Her brother lives there & they go every year.

It is cold out, a bit above freezing. It started raining shen I drove into town just now.

We had 4 new babies yesterday & several more last nite. The little bottle fed on up & moving some but his front feet tend to bend under. They are straightening up though. He can suck a bit but is really slow. We had a cow that prolapsed yesterday afternoon. They vet came out & did surgery on her in the field. I am sure that was super sterile!!! As soon as her calf is off of her, we will have to sell her.

Bill & Jenn are in Portland. They both were really ill —- like me —- on the way out. When they finally got a their motel room, they collapsed to sleep. I think the honeymoon was over before it started. When they checked in, the clerk even told them how bad they looked!! They are better now & were off to get their rental car.

I got a little more sleep last nite & not so much hot/cold times. If I had slept well I could have made it to my swedish club, but….I saw 4am roll by. So far I feel better today. If I do too much I get winded. But now I am sneezing constantly. What is that about?? Will try to work tomorrow. Hopefully it will be a quiet day.

We had 4 more calves last nite. The twins are still hanging in there. The bottle fed one is up & walking now & Willie is going to try a bottle instead of a tube feeding. 

Our weather is ok today. We never got anymore snow. Or the nasty ice like in Kentucky. In the 40s today & sunny. But a slight chance of snow tomorrow.

Not too many surprises on American Idol last nite. One girl I was surprised they booted her off. She did ok but was pretty good in the tryouts. I thought she deserved another chance. The guys no real opinion about. None were my faves. A shame the geeky guy that Simon wanted in never made it but the guy they chose instead made it & then left last nite. Just watched Ellen. The geeky kid was on & sang. I think he would have done much better. I actually think that no one should be voted off the first time round. It is all so new & scary. Maybe give them a week’s grace to adapt then start the voting. They are not professionals so give them a little leeway.

I did watch the debate between Obama & Hillary. It just irritates me to no end when a question is asked & they will not answer but immediately change the subject. And never answer the question. There were not too many surprises. I did find the news about McCain & his lady lobbyist interesting. Not at all surprising. Nothing the republicans do is surprising anymore. 

Not much else going on today. Just resting.

Mom, me, & death threat email

I got word from Mom’s nursing home she finally gets a private room. That will be so nice. Her room mate is a nice lady, but she just lays in bed & does not take care of herself so she tends to smell a bit. Usch. I plan to go to a second hand shop & find a couple of chairs & a table or two. I want it to look homier. And have nice places for visitors to sit. She is excited also. One never knows. She had a chance at a really nice room before she went downhill so much. She refused to move. I took a long nap this afternoon & basically feel better. I had no chills or hot flashes today. That is hopeful. I still ache everywhere. I even have a finger or two that ache at times. Willie went to town for groceries. I told him what I wanted for supper but who knows if he will get it or not. He can get anything he wants for himself & I made 2 simple requests. Do not think that is asking too much. Still cold here & the moisture moved into Missouri. But there is more coming from the southwest. Not too close yet. Has reached Dodge City so it is several hours from here.
