Harvest had a 2 day vacation due to rain. Wish the time off had been good for me but it definitely was not.

Back in the fields yesterday. Last nite one small breakdown. Nothing major. Hope that is it. Seems like we always have one major breakdown each harvest. That is to be expected when you run very old machines. Every year we hope they make it one more year.

It is pretty warm today but no humidity. By wednesday we will be humid again with a chance for storms.

I worked on saturday & had many tours to give. It was fun. I also had a conference call about the art sale coming the autumn.

The photo today is a visitor near my car last nite. It was kind of him to land very close for easy photos!

Gått för dagen. Kanske.

Be well, do good work, and keep in touch!

Mono Monday #13 Jun 28, ‘08 6:49 PM
for everyone
The rules for Mono Mon are pretty simple.Well I hope they are anyways. these are the steps and guidlines and are subject to change as we work the kinks out of this. This is the page to post your link after you have your end results.

1.   Choose your color image (one only)

2.   Do your conversion to one of three types that will be accepted Black and White, Sepia ,”Sepia Example” Or
Black and White with a single hand painted (digitally painted) color. See ”Hand Painted ”

3    Take notes on what processes and steps, programs used, anything that contributed   in
      making the final image.

4.   Write your blog. when finished and happy with it bring it to this page and post your link
only (no images) Also things to remember is to keep your title as short as possible long
long links tend to wreck the right rail allingment on the owners pages.

5.   After link is posted start visiting and seeing all the wonderful shots  and
       techniques being shared.

6.   Posting will close on Tuesday so we can all ready ourselves for “Picture Perfect Friday”

Feel free to ask questions

My original is no available now.
I resized it then did
  • enhanced edges
  • then duplicated it
  • lower layer did – Lucis art exposure – adjusted the contrast – applied salt & pepper filter – did color efex pro – finished with impressionist pencil
  • merged
  • did embossworks – soft glass
  • added border

Just a short update on our weather. It is a short & ugly story. It is 97F/36C with a heat index of 117F/47C. There is a slight breeze of 6mph/9km/h. Not enough to do much if you are standing in the sun. The graphic shows how it feels!!

Harvest went ok yesterday. The elevator was backed up so we had to haul a few small loads to Falun. We prefer Salina as we get more money for our wheat there. Our driver did not even eat with us. He waved & ran! Wish I had known. I would have fixed him something he could take with.

I get today off. Arlie’s wife is cooking supper. I planned to stay home all day but then I got a lunch invite. My dishwasher is not working so I am washing by hand. I got lots caught up yesterday but now there is more. It never ends. And more laundry. You would think an army lives here!

It was really hot on wednesday but we had a nice breeze. Was not so bad to be out in the field. Today is to be hotter yet but windy. Maybe rain tomorrow.

We started fairly early with the heat and no rain. I dread going out there. It is really hot, maybe our hottest day so far. Right now it is 95F. There is some breeze but just hot air coming at you. The photo was taken yesterday. Willie & Arlie were waiting for me to bring supper & decided to sit in the cool air with a cool one. Where they working hard or hardly working???

I should have gone to town to day but just too lazy. Josh even asked me to eat out but I just could not get moving. And I really had too much to do here. Think tomorrow I might hit the grocery store again.

I downloaded to Firefox 3 & added the add blocker. It mostly works. Very nice. I also added Foxmarks. Then when I travel & do not have my laptop, I will always have my bookmarks I usually use daily. Still like Safari better but a good second option. And my Windows Live Hotmail works perfectly. Never does on Safari.

Jo should not be outside in the heat. She stays wet most of the time. I had her in once but she did not want to stay. Stupid dog. She & the cat might ‘fight’ often, but the seem to stay near each other most of the day. A couple of days ago I saw no pets. I called. Here they both came from the same place, running together.

Time to cook. Making brownies. They might not eat them, but someone will!!! I wonder who????

Monday eve: Harvest continues. Not without problems. We have a semi assigned to us  & only us, but if it rains, then the elevator can send him elsewhere. We had a tiny rain shower this morning. Willie talked to our driver to tell him we would start but be little later than usual. So what did the elevator do? They sent him elsewhere!!!! That left us without a truck. WTF??? What were supposed to do with our wheat? Willie fired up an old truck to use. And since our hired men all have jobs, we were short one. Another one works from 12a to 12p. He should have been home in bed. Nice that he helped or we might not have been able to cut today. Willie was much calmer than I would have been.

I brought supper out in the stinkin’ heat & humidity. Thought I would die! I always offer our semi drivers to eat with our crew. They always say no. Most have their own in the trucks. Our driver made it to us in mid-afternoon. I invited him to eat with us. He was thrilled. Not been home in 2 months & tired of fast food! Willie told me he ate extra! I will remember to fix extra & hope I hit when he is there.

Our first field suffered hail damage but still made 40 bushels an acre. Where we are now is making 60 bushels an acre.

There are storms on the Kansas-Colorado border. Might make it here by daybreak. Hope not.

Tuesday: Well, the rain made it to us. So harvest was delayed until 3pm. It was in the 90s but with a nice breeze. We had only 1 helper today. I worry with Willie trying to do to much. He is not a young man anymore, but he has not choice. We have no one else to depend on but ourselves.

This morning I went with Sally, Kathryn, & Phyllis to Lincoln County to see the new wind farm. It was amazing. No breeze so they were still. And to think Lindsborg could have had one, but there is a pocket of ignorance there who prevented it. We have more days with wind than without but all for nought. We also stopped to photograph a large her of buffalo. They are cool to see.

Sally, Kathryn, Phyllis & I are all cousins. Phyllis lives in Washington DC. She is the last living grandchild of my great great grandfather who was one of the first settlers in Lindsborg. We ate at Red Lobster & had a great meal. And lots of family memories to share! An very enjoyable time.

My aunts funeral was yesterday. I heard from her daughter & all went well. The burial was really hard for her but she is glad it is over & she can move on. How I wish I could have been there. I hope to get there after harvest.

Gått för dagen. Kanske.

Be well, do good work, and keep in touch!

Kajsa-Jo – the whole story

Kajsa-Jo – the whole story Jun 23, ‘08 1:48 PM
for everyone
She is part Whippet, part border collie.

Whippets are:
  1. active and playful (she races around the yard, the house, etc.)
  2. are physically similar to a small greyhound (same body shape as one)
  3. quiet and gentle dogs, and may be content to spend much of the day resting (unless racing in the yard or riding in the truck)
  4. friendly to visitors (tries to leave with the UPS man)
  5. tend to attack cats that stray into their territory (we and Kitty have noticed)
  6. females can be a little more complex and strong-willed (Willie can vouch for this)
  7. coats do not provide insulation to withstand prolonged periods in cold temperatures (staking her claim to the recliner now)
  8. most at home in the company of their owners–in their lap or lying next to them ( and how)
  9. it is difficult to instill any sort of traffic sense into them (she runs in front of the tractor, the lawnmower, the truck. Got hit by the mower but never phased her)
  10. heart of a whippet is large and slow beating, often being arrhythmic or even intermittent when the animal is at rest. This sometimes causes concern to the owner, or to the vet not experienced with the breed. Whippets will, however, demonstrate a regular heartbeat during exercise
  11. Whippet sleeping in the ‘cockroach’ position characteristic of sighthounds (photos to follow)
This is how Jo is spending harvest!!

Thought for today:

Laughter is not at all a bad beginning for a friendship, and it is far the best ending for one. – Oscar Wilde

The world is a sadder place today. George Carlin has died. I loved his humour & how he looked at life. I had the privilege of seeing him once on stage in Las Vegas. Here is a nice review of him. Caution, some of the language may offend.

Harvest went ok yesterday. I was gone most of the day so I brought pizza for supper. It was waaaaay too hot for me. It was over 90f! Not a breath of air to be had. I hate summers. We had a small shower early today so that might delay getting started. It was a little embarressing trying to explain why our son is not helping this year. I pretty much said, ask him. What would I know? I am out of the loop. No one tells me anything. And so I shall learn to be that way also. I am not happy & I am deeply hurt.

Jo is hating harvest also. She got her tail shut in the combine door & is now terrified of it. That is actually a good thing. Whippets has no sense of traffic & cannot be taught. She would run in front & get sucked up in it. Whenever Willie leaves he has to lock her up somewhere or she follows. He put an extension on the door of her pen. It is taller than I am. She still got out. We have no clue how. So now she is in either a truck or the house.

I have no get up & go today. I can slack off for a while but then I must go to town to shop for supper. ARGH!!!!

I am now living in an alternate universe. I had to call Willie to give him a message. He actually said ‘thank you’. Huh??? I have never heard that maybe ever, but during harvest when tempers flare easily? I must be dreaming!!

Weather is heating up with a chance of rain/hail later. I think they put that in just to harass farmers!!
