Thought for today:
Yesterday I watched a show from the UK & the guest was Dame Edna. I had forgotten about ‘her’. There she was in a 70’s mini-dress, purple hair, & black & diamond eyeglasses. I am still chuckling!! ‘She’ is a hoot!! But this morning the laughing stopped. My blog today was to be about nothing, since I have no plans for today. It changed this morning. I watched a show on the ID channel called ‘Secrets of 9/11′. It was the most frightening show. Even though you know the outcome, I shook with fear. It was an entire comedy of errors. Our entire government failed at every turn. We were warned in 1995 of Al Qa’ida using aircraft to attack us. Clinton knew how big a threat bin Laden was to us. He missed several opportunities to kill him, but never gave the order —- too many others who would die, Egyptian royalty present with him. In retrospect, not good reasons. When Bush took office, on day one, Clinton told him in no uncertain terms that bin Laden & Al Qa’ida was of the utmost importance. Bush tototally ignored the warning & did nothing. Richard Clark (think this is his name) who was in charge of counter intelligence was branded an idiot in his pursuit of bin Laden & Al Qa’ida. He resigned hoping when someone else saw the facts they would do something. Never happened. One month before 9/11 Bush was given a memo in large dark black letters warning of Al Qa’ida & what they were planning. He laid it aside without a first or second thought. No agency communicated with each. The FAA, CIA, counter-terrorism people never told each what they knew or names of terrorists. If they had, those who took the planes would have been stopped from entering the country or getting on a plane anywhere. When the attack happened, the FAA never let the military know what was happening. The military failed when they did know. They were no jets anywhere near when the planes hit. Bush sat for at least 9 minutes after hearing of the first plane & did nothing. He froze. The look on his face said it all — clueless. When he left the school to return to Air Force One, the Secret Service directed the motorcade in the wrong direction & had to make a u-turn. Communication was completely shut down. Bush could not talk to anyone in Washington, not even on a borrowed cell phone. No one knew who was for sure in charge. Cheney gave the order to shoot down any commercial plane that was hijacked, but legally he could not give that order. Only Bush could. Bush never gave the order but Cheney & Condi Rice later said he did. There is no record of it & no one will tell the truth to this day. The military never got Cheney’s order anyway. The only pilot who got the order was one in Washington. And the only plane available to him was not armed. He got in it anyway. He planned to ram any plane that was a threat with the hopes he could eject in time to save his life. He was a hero. On 9/11 and on 9/12, Bush, Cheney, & Rumsfeld made the decision to attack Iraq even though the attacks came from Afghanistan. Rumsfeld said there were no good targets in Afghanistan but Iraq had great targets to hit. BUT THE ATTACKS CAME NOT FROM IRAQ. They did not care. Finally they agreed to attack Afghanistan first & then move on to Iraq. WTF. It was so sad to know this probably could have been prevented. Even just the agencies communicating with each other could have gone a long way to change the outcome even if Bush still ignored everything. Some of the facts brought out I knew, but there were others I did not. Are we safer now? Have things changed? Sadly, I think not. Those who made serious errors need to admit those errors & then change the status quo. Many have not. This weighs heavy on my mind & I think it will for a long time. Those who failed us should be ashamed & should be sorry. Should be. Gått för dagen. Kanske.
