for everyone

Today is Quebec’s National Day
Thought for today:

Honesty may be the best policy, but it’s important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy.

Monday eve: Harvest continues. Not without problems. We have a semi assigned to us  & only us, but if it rains, then the elevator can send him elsewhere. We had a tiny rain shower this morning. Willie talked to our driver to tell him we would start but be little later than usual. So what did the elevator do? They sent him elsewhere!!!! That left us without a truck. WTF??? What were supposed to do with our wheat? Willie fired up an old truck to use. And since our hired men all have jobs, we were short one. Another one works from 12a to 12p. He should have been home in bed. Nice that he helped or we might not have been able to cut today. Willie was much calmer than I would have been.

I brought supper out in the stinkin’ heat & humidity. Thought I would die! I always offer our semi drivers to eat with our crew. They always say no. Most have their own in the trucks. Our driver made it to us in mid-afternoon. I invited him to eat with us. He was thrilled. Not been home in 2 months & tired of fast food! Willie told me he ate extra! I will remember to fix extra & hope I hit when he is there.

Our first field suffered hail damage but still made 40 bushels an acre. Where we are now is making 60 bushels an acre.

There are storms on the Kansas-Colorado border. Might make it here by daybreak. Hope not.

Tuesday: Well, the rain made it to us. So harvest was delayed until 3pm. It was in the 90s but with a nice breeze. We had only 1 helper today. I worry with Willie trying to do to much. He is not a young man anymore, but he has not choice. We have no one else to depend on but ourselves.

This morning I went with Sally, Kathryn, & Phyllis to Lincoln County to see the new wind farm. It was amazing. No breeze so they were still. And to think Lindsborg could have had one, but there is a pocket of ignorance there who prevented it. We have more days with wind than without but all for nought. We also stopped to photograph a large her of buffalo. They are cool to see.

Sally, Kathryn, Phyllis & I are all cousins. Phyllis lives in Washington DC. She is the last living grandchild of my great great grandfather who was one of the first settlers in Lindsborg. We ate at Red Lobster & had a great meal. And lots of family memories to share! An very enjoyable time.

My aunts funeral was yesterday. I heard from her daughter & all went well. The burial was really hard for her but she is glad it is over & she can move on. How I wish I could have been there. I hope to get there after harvest.

Gått för dagen. Kanske.

Be well, do good work, and keep in touch!
