for everyone

Thought for today:

“To forget how to dig the earth and to tend the soil is to forget ourselves.”

I survived my jury experience. The worst was getting up early & almost oversleeping!!!

We all met at 845am. We all got paid for being there. Those who live in Salina got $10. Those from out of town also got mileage, so I took home $25 & change. Not so bad. We all went into court around 9am. They were going to seat a 6 person panel. They called 12 of us to sit in the jury box. I was one of them. They judge then talked to us & asked some general questions. Then the prosecuter asked us some general questions. Most went unanswered. A few did need to answer. Then the defense lawyer came to ask us question. He made a big point of telling us about not being able to see due to diabetes so he moved the podium to stand closer to us. He had the defendant help him move the podium, his walker, his papers. I am sure it was to show what a nice young man the defendant is. Hey, I watch soap operas & I know all about trials & how things work!! *LOL* No one asked any of us questions individually. Then there was a break. The prosecutor eliminated 3 people & the defense eliminated 3 people. The remaining 6 were seated & stayed. I was not one of them. How do they decide who to strike? Age? Hair colour? I might have been the perfect jurist but who would know when they asked me personally nothing. And, xchips, the defendant was young & very cute. I would have let him walk!!!! *giggles* It was actually only a 1 day trial, so after I got there I would not have minded staying. Oh well. Now they cannot recall me for a year.

I went to the car wash. It was beyond dirty after harvest! Looks & smells much better. Now when I get all the stuff out of the inside, will have the inside done also.

Before I left Salina Sally called to see if I could eat out. Well…………of course!! I picked Jalisco’s. Bunny joined us also. Guty, my Swedish ’student’, seemed really glad to see me. So did Frankie, our waiter today. They probably thought I had died or skipped the country!

Got some really bad news today. My friend Chris who is the head of our convention & visitors bureau was in a horrid car wreck. He was hit on the drivers side of his car by a large truck. He is in Wichita on life support, mostly because of all the broken ribs & damage to his lungs. His prognosis is good but will be a long, painful journey. I am very distraught. He is one of the nicest men I know. Please all say a prayer for him or ask the spirits who surround us for aid for him. He needs lots of help.

It was wonderful to see the 3 American  hostages be released yesterday. I stayed up to watch them land in Texas. And I heard the Columbian lady who was a captive with them speak last nite. Now if someone could get the other 700 released. Why are we humans to cruel to each other?

We had no rain last nite. It got close. We saw lightning. Today it is cool out — 73F — with chance of rain. It is just only a mile from us but nothing here. The heat returns tomorrow.

Gått för dagen. Kanske.

Be well, do good work, and keep in touch!
