Thought for today:

“People talk about “dysfunctional” families; I’ve never seen any other kind”

–Sue Grafton

We had nice weather. Never hit 80, nice breeze, no storms. I should have been outside to enjoy it but I never left the house. I did not sleep well last nite so I took a nap. Willie left Jo in & she slept too. If the phone had not rang, we would still be sleeping.

No holiday here. I hoped to go out to eat but I am cooking now. And seeing fireworks is pretty doubtful. Not in the mood anyway.

Bill called about some of his work papers. Since we talked I have pretty much been in tears. Life is great in a dysfunctional family. He & Jenn will be here tomorrow but I will be working.

This will be a strange weekend. I usually eat out with friends on sundays. But everyone is out of town or working. I had thought of going to see a friend out of town, but they are working also. Will just not seem right. Wish I could convince Willie to take a day off to do something, but that is pretty doubtful.

Gått för dagen. Kanske.

Be well, do good work, and keep in touch!

Monas Dare – A MEMORY Jul 4, ‘08 3:57 PM
for everyone
The picture I chose is of me & my friend Lindsay. He was from New South Wales Australia. He was the smartest man I ever met. He was a businessman who had invented several things. He also mined for oil, gold, opals, etc. He once was a treasure hunter off the Florida coast. He helped New York City find an oil leak. He helped the Sydney police find bodies of mob murders outside of the city. He was an expert marksman. He travelled the world over. And yet he & I had a special bond. Although we did not get to spend lots of time together, we emailed often. And I always mailed him cards on special occasions. He never acted like the wealthy & intelligent man he was. And why he would ever want to be friends with a simple farm girl like me is a mystery.

Lindsay was the first person with who I realised the power of the internet. One afternoon or evening we sat & emailed back & forth, our emails reaching each other within seconds of sending them. We were sitting 15,000 miles apart & each in a different day, & our emails travelled between us within seconds.

Lindsay became ill several years ago. I was devasted. But even in his dying, we were connected. I miss him daily. It was hard to even write this. This my favourite photo of us together. He always had a big hug & kiss when he saw me. Oh, for just one more time.
