Tonite I saw one of my blogger friend’s husband died suddenly last nite. Remember Peachie and her family in your hearts and prayers.

I was gone this noon helping Chris out. I am so stressed over him. What is a grandma to do??

Tonite was Messiah rehearsal. The beginning of rehearsal the music just transcended the pain I was in. Will it never get better?? The middle was awful. The director refused to let us sit. I considered leaving. Then the end was better. I got lost in the music again. And then. Then. Our director went into a lecture of God knows what. Obviously someone or several are causing some kind of problem and he was trying to address this without giving away names or the situation. So we got a lecture on how no one should think bad of George W Bush, then a sermon, then a long prayer. A sermon and a prayer, that is ok. Lecturing about politics it totally inappropriate and out of place. That is not acceptable. I have gotten enough crap about who I am and what I believe around town I certainly do not need it at a chorus I sing in. See what the fall out is on sunday.

It is way too early, but ticks are already out. Picked several off Jo already. And yesterday I had one on me. I hate them. I usually can feel it moving before they have time to bit me. But not yesterday. Now I am worried about Lyme Disease. Will have to keep checking for at least 6 months. What next???

Our weather was very windy again. It is getting sooo old. Maybe rain wednesday nite. Maybe. It could wait.

I was gone all day and truly accomplished nothing. I had my hair cut, coloured, shampooed, and styled. It takes forever. That was all afternoon.

Then it was to town to pick up John and head to McPherson for supper with Eric and his mom. She is an artist who creates wonderful, one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry. I bought some earrings and a necklace. She is returning next october to our artist in residence at the Red Barn. I must save my money!! She had an awesome necklace tonite but I could not afford it.

Class tonite was soooo fun. I learned that 2 of my classmates love cemeteries also and we compared some where we have been. And as they are from Great Bend, we talked about the one there. I found out there is a very famous black film director buried there. Will look for it next trip there.

We watched a movie called The Miracle at Morgan’s Creek. Made in 1942 and released in 1944. It was so funny and well made. I recommend to all.

Most of the snow is gone except for the huge piles in towns. We had rain forecast for tonite but it all is east of us. But more is forecast this week.

29/03/09 Dress rehearsal

These are 100 yr old pins that used to be given to the members of the Messiah Chorus. And below is me wearing them both for our dress rehearsal today.

I really should not be blogging today as I am in an awful mood. I am sick of someone’s negative additude and trying to control a mutual friend, tired of people, et. al. in genreal, tired of hurting, and just plain sick of missing Mom. But….why should all that stop me?

I met friends for lunch. We all swore the cook never made it to work. I had shrimp and this place makes their own cocktail sauce that is awesome. They were out. Huh? The macaroni and cheese I had was not fresh, but leftovers. And service was extra slow. Hmmm.

We had Messiah rehearsal. It did not go well. The orchestra could not all stay together to save their lives. Not good. We had students sing all the arias. Wow, they did wonderful!! All of them! I swear there were choruses I never remember singing all the way through. We would rehearse bits and pieces. And this year the new, fill-in director is taking many of those choruses waaay toooo fast. Singing them feels like being on a runaway train! I could not see the director. So not only did my back hurt like normal, it hurt worse since I was leaning and straining just trying to see him. I do not remember this tall lady in front of me before. I do not feel we are ready, but Mom always said if the dress rehearsal was bad, performance would be good. Let’s hope.

Years ago when you sang in the Messiah Chorus you got a pin. I started in the early 1960s and never got a pin so not sure when that practice stopped. I got a couple of pins on eBay. They are from 1909 and 1910 —- around 100 yrs. old. I wore them today. I thought they might enjoy ‘hearing’ the chorus again! I showed them to our director. He thought they were cool. Me too.

Bethany Home brought over several residents to hear the Messiah today. Mom was always one of them. I remember where she was last year. I started to cry several times. I hate this yeaer.

We got fairly warm and the snow was melting but there is sooo much of it!! I have not seen piles of snow so high in town in many years!!

28 mars 2009 Freedom!!

Willie got the driveway cleared late this afternoon. Ah, sweet freedom! I can go to town on sunday! It actually warmed up to the mid-40s so we had some melting. It was a very wet snow that was greatly needed.

28/03/09 Living in a blizzard area

I braved the snow and went outside to take some photos. When I went to bed around 1am it was really a heavy snow coming down. Just looking outside it does not look so bad. So I stepped out of our carport and sunk almost to my knees!! I got snow in my boots! It is at least 12 inches deep with deeper drifts. Jo has been racing outside and is covered in ice balls! She is truly an idiot.Willie has locked her in the bathroom to thaw out and clean up!

Bill called this morning. Where he lives they have 20 inches on the ground. The snow goes half way up on both their front and back doors. They cannot get out. Their windows are covered from the snow blowing. He drove home in this mess and almost did not make it.

I was supposed to work but called in. Our pickup struggles to make it up and down the drive way and my car sits much lower. Marsha is not even going to open the Red Barn up today. Who in their right mind would be out today?

We had a new calf that died right after being born. Too much snow. Very sad. Hope everyone else can wait a day or so. Or pick a birthing place with less snow.

Tomorrow is our Messiah dress rehearsal. I wonder if I can get there? Or all the others who live in other towns. I think we should wait until tuesday for dress rehearsal and those who show tomorrow just have a normal rehearsal. But what do I know?

Spring Snow 27 mars 2009

This was around 1pm. Just a skim of snow. Poor cows!

This is 4pm. Getting whiter but not coming down too heavy.

Here is 5pm. The heavy snow coming down just does not show up well. Visibility is now limited. So glad I am home!!

Here is a protected branch showing how much snow we have around 6pm.

Here is 10pm. Not as heavy snow but still a north wind. And one last photo to follow.

I love snow at nite photos were the flakes look like little hailstones or rocks.

We were lucky. Southwestern Kansas there was 16 inches of snow. Could be lots worse.

I braved the weather and made it to Swedish group this morning. No trouble driving in but when I returned home around 1pm snow was starting to stick to the roads. The winds are fairly strong today. It snows off and on. We have 8 inches forecast for here through the rest of today, tonite, and tomorrow. After group I had ice covering my car so we were having rain/sleet also.

Group was pretty good. Over 20n brave souls took on the weather to attend. And our host/hostess fixed the best snacks!! I had the program. I had a list of swedish words they had to match to the english equivalent. The list I had was all winter words. I thought with the nice weather we have had it would seem odd, but Mother Nature played right into my hand. The groups seems to like doing these ‘tests’. I have a couple ready for sometime that are recipes. Then they get something they can use!

I was supposed to work today but begged off with the bad weather. Marsha and I were just going to talk over something and we can do that next week.

26/03/09 Rain? Blizzard??!!

Chris (grandson) and his new girlfriend stopped over yesterday and today the 3 of us went out for pizza together. She is just soo nice. I like her. Cute and smart. I think she is a keeper.

Today Mom was supposed to have a dr appt in Wichita. Months in advance we had planned on Yia Yias since her birthday was last week. I have been teary all week. Oh how I wish I was there. Our driver from the Home and I texted each other today, wishing for the impossible. I did visit her grave.

A former nurse aide from the Home comitted suicide a couple of nites ago. It is so upsetting. He was a nice guy and the father of a young child. Just a waste of a life. I feel for his family and his friends.

The rain has reached Lindsborg just now. I even heard a bit of thunder. The winds came up middle of the afternoon. My county is part of a winter storm warning. Lindsborg’s county is in a blizzard warning. We are quite close to that county so who knows what we might see. They are forecasting 12 inches in western Kansas. Here more like 6-8 inches. I will not believe we will get either rain or snow until I see it. Maybe photos to follow. Maybe.

I got brave and ventured back to my Y360 blogg yesterday. I tried all morning just to LOOK at my own blogg. Finally gave up. Last evening I could get in. I made a comment on someone’s and it took forever to post. Not sure how many of my old contacts are still there. One is still there but we are no longer connected. I saw a couple of others still there but then I got bumped out again. Only website I *always* have trouble with. Others rarely freeze or boot me out. Hmmm.

I was up early and running errands with and for my grandson. Now I am  home and baking some of Peachie‘s cake mix cookies. The batter is to die for. See what the baked cookies are like! (baked are good also)

Well, now that it is spring Kansas has a blizzard warning starting in a day or so. They area forecasting 8-10 inches of snow. We here in the middle are not included. We will either not even get a drop of rain or we will get 10 inches of snow. They are always sooo wrong. The only time our weathermen are right is if they forecast the temps to be horrendously hot or gale force winds. They never miss those. The radar now shows a large area of rain with snow way west. We are in the middle of the rain yet nothing it hitting the ground here. We are so parched…
