Weather was miserable today. Again. Not a super high temp but the humidity. And we had high winds. We were in a severe weather watch tonite and got zilch. Not even a hint of rain here. Way west of us a church lost it steeple from high winds and there was heavy rains, but here……nada. Better chance wednesday or thursday. So they say. Ha.
I started the day in Salina at Mokas with my friends Gary and Beth. We discussed the European royal families, mutual friends from school and on FaceBook, weather, and politics. A great time!!! Must do this more often!!!
Made a stop at the Smolan Ev. Lutheran Cemetery. Nice small cemetery. Found the burial plot of our 40th governor, John Carlin. He is still with us but his parents, etc. are there. Then I found the grave of a dear sweet man I worked with in the late 1970s. I have never forgotten him but never knew where he rested. Brought back some pleasant memories.
Tonite went to supper with Elly at Jalisco’s. Got lots of bad news. One of our best restaurants suddenly closed. No idea why. Not good news for our town. That was where the tour busses always ate. Another place is probably going to close unless they find a buyer. Sad.
After supper Elly and I attended the ALLY meeting at Bethany College. We had 10 members present. Very nice. Made plans to have a couple of speakers, a movie or two, and some other events. I am encouraged. After the meeting 3 of the students came up to me and asked if I am Chris’ grandmother. Well, of course I am!! Two of them work with him and one is a friend. They friend I actually met a couple of years ago. Nice kids all.
Back at home, more bad news. A guy I was in school with died suddenly. We were never friends but he was nice. And one of our landlords died today. It was expected but still sad. He was 95 yrs. old. Funeral is friday morning. Must cancel my Swedish group. There is no one to take over and I am the program. Boy, this gets old. Why can I not have a vice-president to fill in for me?
Ciao for niao!
Jag behöver semester! Jag vill åka till Sverige!
Late last night
While we were all in bed
Miss O’Leary left a lantern in the shed . . .
When the cow tipped it over…
She winked her eye and said,
“It will be a hot time in the old town tonight.”
