The Svenska Vänskaps Gruppen met Friday, January 28, 2011, at 10:00am in the Martin Luther Room at Bethany Lutheran Church. Fourteen members were present & no guests. Members present were Julie-Ann, Gretchen, Marliss, Inga-Lill, Charlotte, Asta, Doris, Emery, Alice, Jeanette, Melanie, Leroy, Clarice, and Gem.
Our hostess today was Julie-Ann Neywick. She served crackers, 2 kinds of cheese, and 2 kinds of meat along with some sugar cookies.Doris Frost has agreed to be our hostess next week.
Julie-Ann Neywick opened the meeting with a greeting på svenska. We then prayed together Fader vår. That is the Lord’s Prayer in Swedish. After praying we sang Du gamla, du fria. That is the Swedish National Anthem. And we always stand to sing it. We used to only sing it when ‘real’ Swedes were our guests but now we sing it each week for good practice.
A card to the Ewald Lofdahl family was signed and we also passed the hat. Flowers were sent to the service earlier this week. We are saddened to have lost a dear friend. He always has some interesting information to share with us. And he spoke Swedish just perfectly. He will be missed. How can we do the Annandag jul service without him?
Julie-Ann shared some Swedish ‘gossip’ about Princess Madeline. And we talked about how much snow they have had this winter.
Our program today was a short translation about the wintry weather we had last week. The words we translated will be listed below. How many do you know???
Our next program will be for everyone to bring something Swedish to share. It can be a poem, a photo, a story, a trinket, just anything. Always fun to see what everyone brings!
We meet every Friday morning at 10am at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg KS. We almost always meet in the Martin Luther Room. Everyone is welcome to join us for an hour of ‘fika’ – coffee & food with friends – & a program. Previous knowledge of the Swedish language is not necessary! No one is even close to being fluent!!!
