Weather was better today. Not as hot. Cooler tomorrow but warming for next week. Fairly windy today too. Not a chance of rain anytime soon. We are now 11” behind for the year.
I helped Willie move farm machinery again. Of course, he waited till the last minute so I was in a rush. I was to meet a friend.
I met Dustin in Salina at Moka’s for lunch. Love that place. You can forget for a while you are in Salina or even Kansas. Probably why I love being there. We had a great talk and he made a copy of a very old book about Falun for me. Very cool. Everything you could ever want to know about Falun. Now to find time to read it!!!
Before I left town I realised I had not asked anyone to bring food to our Swedish group. So I had to stop in Dillons for stuff and a few things for home also. Better this afternoon than tomorrow morning!!!
When I got home, the backyard was full of our turkeys. Fun to watch them. Took several photos, of course.
Weather took a nosedive today. I was in the Pratt area and the temp was at least 95F. Ick and double ick. Not much humidity so it did not feel so awful. At our farm the high was 88F. Cool front comes tomorrow. No need to return to the ‘dome of heat’. Ick again.
Today I took a mini-car trip to see new grandbaby Ava. It is a 2 hour drive. She slept in my lap for a long time and then got fussy after eating. We think she had a little tummy ache. At one week she already has a mind of her own. She hates to have her diaper wet or poopy. And let’s you know. She is already raising her head a bit. And she gets so mad when she gets the hiccups. She has gained a whole pound this last week. And Mom is feeling much better also.
I took photos on the way there and home. A nice trip. Treated myself to a DQ burger and fries at noon. Resisted the urge to eat out on the way home.
Tonite I got a friend invite from my first daughter-in-law’s daughter. I am honoured. She is a beautiful high school girl. I am close to her sister that was my step-granddaughter once upon a time. And still in my heart. Nice to sort of ‘add’ to my family.
I have had Mom on my mind a lot lately. How she would love to have a new great granddaughter. How I miss her. And many thoughts of John also. So many wonderful things in his family now. I can just hear him. I miss him every day. Every day. When does a heart quit hurting?
Weather continues to be perfect. A bit warmer tomorrow then cooler again. No rain for the next 10 days or more. The drought continues. It might as well wait to rain until after Hyllningsfest. Our wheat should be in then also.
I started the day in a rush. Willie needed help moving to a field. He knew I was leaving but waited until the very last minute to ask for my help. Always good to start the day with high anxiety. But it went well.
Met Beth and Janet for lunch in Salina at Chili’s. We talked for over 3 hours. We thoroughly discussed our early years in school and our school mates. What memories!!! And all those who are not here any longer. Bittersweet memories. So if anyone who knew of us when had their ears burning this afternoon —– it is our fault!!!
I needed a few minor groceries, mostly milk. I really was not in the mood to wander through Dillons so went to Target instead. They had everything I needed. And a few extras!!!
Still extra tired tonite. No idea why. And I feel achy and hot. The house is a bit warm. Hope that is all it is. Will turn the AC on for a bit and take some Aleve. Hope that helps.
Weather continues to be perfect. Such a blessing not to be whinging about it all the time.
Quiet and slow day today. Just housework. Took a walk around the yard looking for things to photograph. Nothing but weeds but macro shots make them look cool. Some have tiny tiny flowers on them. Saw a cricket and a spider. God, I hate spiders. Ick.
Arlie is here cultivating and Willie is starting to sow wheat this afternoon. He missed his after dinner nap. He will be ‘gone’ early tonite!!!
Been chatting with a friend in Sweden this afternoon. Very cool. Best part of the internet.
Must have slept wrong last nite. Have a sore and stiff neck. Not enjoying that at all.
I took backroads home today. Saw a field of planted sunflowers. But I could not get close enough for good photos. Dang. But I found other things to photograph. And 2 new to me wildflowers. I have a set on Flickr of wildflower names.
I have been near exhaustion for 3 days. No idea why. I took a long nap yesterday and slept good last nite, but still tired today. Too another nap. See how I feel tomorrow. I had planned to go see baby Ava today and glad I did not. Too tired to drive. Will go later in the week sometime. They are still adjusting having her home.
Jo got injured this evening. She never walks anywhere, runs like a bat outta hell. Willie said he started up his tractor and she came charging up to it when she suddenly yelped loudly while rolling in pain on the ground. He checked her over and she has no cuts or anything. She limps a bit when walking but otherwise is ok. Maybe she twisted her ‘ankle’ or something. Glad she is ok. I gave her an extra treat when she got in. Glad she has no idea why or she would be dragging a leg while whining hoping for more!!!
Weather was just perfect. Again. Just so nice. Mild days, cool nites. No A/C on, no heat on. Ahhh…..
I worked today in Lindsborg at the Red Barn. Busy day again. I gave tours to around 9 people. The first ones in had recently bought a Raymer painting. We had it in our database under the previous owners. All my tours today were such nice people. Friendly and interested in what I said. Makes my day worth while.
I treated myself to a nice ‘zen moment’ at the White Peacock. I had tea and fudge. I sat and read for a while. Just nice. Very nice. Then home to face a sink full of dishes. All from the dog, I am sure!! Can’t be us eating that much!!!
Missed my futbol games today. Inter won, Arsenal finally won, and S-Pulse tied. I never watch American football but I heard that KSU was awesome today. They played while I was at work.
Took a few photos today. The Sunflowers are about done. Very few left. I will miss them. A few other wildflowers remain as do flowers in gardens in town.
Weather was just perfect. Cool at nite and mild during the day. As much as I want rain, it can wait a week or so. Time to start sowing our wheat. Summer died early this morning. Autumn arrived around 4am. I thought it would never get here.
Quiet day on thursday. Met Sally and Paul for lunch at Jalisco’s. Then I bought groceries.
A dear friend called me thursday evening. Her son is or was my best friend. He is not doing well at all. I am so worried about him. He has quit calling or emailing. That tells me so much. And nothing good. And I feel powerless to help.
Swedish club today. Had a good crowd. The King and Queen of our Hyllningsfest that is happening in 2 weeks. They told about where their ancestors were from. A very interesting talk!
I met Paul and Sally for lunch at the Sugar Shack. I was there quite early so glad I had my Nook Color. I caught up on email and reading.
I took the long way home today. I even found some new wildflowers. And identified them tonite. Flowers are getting fewer and fewer. Our pear tree here has one red leaf. Autumn is here.
Bill called this morning. Jenn and Ave came home this afternoon. Bet it is nice to be in their own home. So much better than the hospital. I may try to drive there in a few days.
Last nite at 2am, our daughter-in-law Jenn had an emergency C-section. We are blessed with a sweet baby girl. No one knew the sex but I had guessed right! She weighted 5 lb. 12 oz. Willie and drove there this morning. I held Ava all afternoon. She was mostly content and quiet but did occasionally have to show us she had lungs!!! What a nice afternoon!! I hope to return there soon.
Weather was cool and mostly cloudy. But last nite. We had RAIN!!!! Real honest-to-goodness rain!! Lots of thunder and lightning. All totaled this morning, we had 2.80”! Awesome!!! Nice to see puddles on the roads and fields. I forgot what they looked like.
Met Sally, Paul, Richea, Chad, Diane and her husband for dinner today at the Sugar Shack. I had Swedish pancakes. They were awesome! Three pancakes and bacon with butter and lingon. Perfect.
Then this evening we went to Mary and Ray’s to celebrate our grand niece’s birthday. She is 9. Fun to be with all our nieces and nephews. We had bbq beef, potato sallad, chips, dip, cake, and homemade ice cream. Mmmm. Nice evening.
Another busy day tomorrow. Then I can relax a bit. Finally!!!
Weather was cold, cloudy, humid but no rain here. Tornado watch in southern Kansas. We heard some thunder but not even near us. Right now it is 62F with a 90% humidity. Thank God it is not 90F out!!!
Another work day in Lindsborg at the Red Barn. More boring than yesterday. Sheesh. Max, our artist went back to Kansas City early. No need to hang around if no one comes in. Not even a phone call today. Made me more tired being bored than giving tours!
Ate in Salina at Arby’s tonite. I was in no mood to cook. Then we went to Kmart to shop a bit. I hate going there. Cheap cheap stuff. I look but rarely buy. Towels and things are ok. They have some food but not enough where you can actually buy groceries. But we just needed milk, chips, and paper towels.
Came home and cleaned up the pile of dishes in the sink. Mercy! I swear the dog has all the neighbouring dogs in for a party after we go to bed. Willie and I are not eating that much!!!
Everyone is in bed so I have control of the remote! Watching Serie A futbol, Inter vs. Roma. It is in Italy. Very very exciting game. One of my fave players plays for Inter. He is Wesley Sneijder who is Dutch. He played the full 90 and is a power house. A joy to watch. Even though they tied, a great way to end the day.
Busy sunday coming up. Several family get-togethers. Will be a good day.
